This workshop is supervised by Acting Coach Japan and developed in collaboration with Lucas Rue.
Matt Phin is an actor, teacher, and drama educator originally from Calgary, Canada. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Drama in 2010 and has spent more than 10 years teaching in Japan.
His acting foundation is rooted in four years of training in a Uta Hagen-based drama program at St. Mary's University College, including study with Grant Reddick, who trained directly with Hagen in New York. Since 2025, he has continued his actor training with Lucas Rue in the Meisner Technique, exploring truthful behavior, emotional authenticity, and genuine connection between actors. He remains active as a performer in Tokyo's English-language theatre community.
Matt currently teaches both Literature and Drama in the International Course at Hiroo Gakuen Koishikawa, a Tokyo college-preparatory school where students complete a full English-language academic curriculum and prepare for university study both in Japan and internationally. He works with students on scene study, monologues, performance skills, and creative expression.
Matt loves helping young actors step outside their comfort zones, take creative risks, and discover the excitement of performance.
